This plan hits the top sites in just two days!

Day One

Begin at Amelia Court House for breakfast or lunch at one of local restaurants in village.  Stay and shop for that unique something at one of our delightful antique shops, or if you are lucky – one of the wonderful small town festivals will be going on – stick around and have fun with the folks down home!

Then, travel to Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park, following the “Lee’s Retreat” driving tour (Jetersville, Amelia Springs, Deatonville, Holt’s Corner, Hillsman House, Marshall’s Crossroads, Lockett House, Double Bridges).  Spend quality time with some of the most knowledgeable people on those last days of the American Civil War.  The brand new, state-of-the art Visitor Center has wonderful displays and artifacts found on the grounds – yes, 150 years later, and they are still finding artifacts!

Continue to Farmville, the county seat for Prince Edward County, following “Lee’s Retreat” tour- (Cavalry Battle for High Bridge, Farmville, visit High Bridge Trail State Park, a 30-mile walking trail featuring the 125 foot tall bridge. Stop by the Heartland Regional Visitor Centerfor more information on the entire region, then end the day at one of downtown restaurants where you can relax and unwind.

OPTION – Spend night in a Farmville hotel, or at one of Twin Lakes State Park cabins, for a two-day Civil War Tour.

Day Two

Wake up in your cabin, and have breakfast downtown Farmville before continuing the “Lee’s Retreat” driving tour to Cumberland Church on Route 45.  Afterwards, drive a little further to Cumberland Court House, the County seat, where more antique shopping awaits you!  Several delightful stops along Hwy 60 – it is SO worth the drive!

Head towards Appomattox and stop by the Visitor Information Center downtown.  They will direct you to a unique spot for lunch.  Spend some time shopping in the many antique stores all along Main Street.  Finish the day at the American Civil War Museum- Appomattox and the Appomattox  Court House National Historical Park.

OPTION – Spend the night in Appomattox before heading for home where you can unwrap your treasures, then get online and tell everyone on your social media listing, how you can’t wait to go back!
